Cars in German Town Discovered Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Confirm

Police stated they were notified by a man who found a vehicle in Hanau smeared with reddish fluid

Approximately fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a release.

Officers report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.

The fluid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.

Officers then located many other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.

Police report preliminary tests suggest the fluid was most likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are currently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they added.

City officials stated they were attempting "to solve the case" and have asked to the community for information.

An important political figure commented the vandalism left him speechless and had to be resolved rapidly.

"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the death of nine victims by a assailant focusing on people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
