19 of Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hardcourt
A comeback Daniil Medvedev secured his first trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.
Medvedev, a former number one, has endured a torrid year, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the US Open.
Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and struggles with his service game in especial - caused him falling of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.
Presently working with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.
This marks his maiden trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface from March of that year.
The win also indicates he has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 different competitions.
"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters together, so to secure a championship is really nice," stated ranked player the champion.
"This championship is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my child Alisa was born was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six finals, featuring in that event earlier this year.
His retrieving approach and regular reactions on the tennis court had caused some to doubt if his skill to compete at the elite level was over.
Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to advance forward and play positively, reinforced by an better service.
He fought back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult opponent, taking four of the final five points to go ahead.
Both players exchanged service breaks in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his first ATP Tour title, took control to push for a third set.
The opponent saved four initial chances in a competitive third set before Medvedev broke to 15 to serve for the match.
Appropriately, Medvedev clinched victory with a point at the net area, with Moutet incapable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
